Expectations
Expectations
Learning requires a safe space where you can be curious and possibly fail without fear. Behaviour that shuts down or inhibits other people’s learning will not be tolerated at any time. It is my wish that all my students Respect Themselves, Respect Each Other as well displaying traits of Good Citizenship. In order to create and maintain a learning environment that I feel best meets the needs and the conditions most conducive to learning for the majority of students I have the following
Above all else..."Treat others the way you want to be Treated."
|
It is my belief that all students have the opportunity to a safe and inclusive environment in which learning can take place. While it is challenging to create an ideal learning environment for every student, I feel it is important that each and every student acknowledge his/her own needs as well as respect the needs of peers.
Respect can take many forms, but the ones I feel are most important to school environment include, but not limited to:
|
Learning Environment
I trust that you as students to know what is appropriate and what is not. I trust that you can think about your actions and their effect on others. If you are having difficulty living up to these expectations, I will use a progressive system of interventions, starting with a conversation about your choices. If the system fails, I will include a third party as necessary. This means I will involve parents and administrators. Students who abide by these expectations will contribute to an excellent learning climate for all. Let’s make good choices! |
Be Responsible
This classroom is an Excuse Free Zone. You need to be accountable for your actions, behaviours, and choices; excuses and whining will not be tolerated (some exception apply). All students need to be responsible for their learning and expressing their needs in a timely fashion. I encourage all students to take Pride in themselves as well as their work After all..."If you can't stand behind your own actions and work, no one else will either!"
|
Be Cooperative
We have all been there before: Why are we doing this? Why are we learning this? I ask all students to be patient as sometimes the answers might not be immediately apparent, but rest assured that they will come and when they do it will not be disappointing. After all "Getting there is half the fun". Also, there may be occasions where you will be asked to participate in activities you may not like or may think are futile. I ask you to please keep an open-mind and have a positive attitude as the activity might be very beneficial for other students and in the end hopefully you learned a few things on the way. |
Communication
The key to any relationship is the ability to communicate openly and effectively. Keeping noise to a minimum as well as actively listening to what individuals have to say are important components of the communication process. I encourage all students to come and see me about anything they wish to discuss, especially course related material as well as to come and see me immediately if they are experiencing any difficulty with their learning. SPECIAL NOTE ON LANGUAGE: Everyone has the right to work in safe, clean and inclusive environment. There is a zero tolerance policy for inappropriate language including, but not limited to: swearing, defamation, inappropriate physical or verbal gestures, etc... |
Class Participation & Discussion:
Participation in class is an important factor to your success in this course as well part learning process. Asking questions and seeking clarification is a vital component to your understanding, so:
|
Academic Dishonesty
Do not cheat. Cheating is when you claim other’s work as your own, this includes copying answers form your friends. Ultimately, you will only be cheating yourself out of your own education. Cheating is the same as lying and stealing and will be treated as such. DEPEND ON YOURSELF FOR SUCCESS and hold yourself accountable if you’re not doing the job.
Your success will impact YOU and only YOU in the end, so take responsibility and do your best! |
General Rules:
- Food & Drinks: I will permit "Healthy" food and drinks in the classroom if it is consumed quietly and doesn't affect the learning environment. Students will be responsible for cleaning up after themselves (throwing wrappers in the garbage (i.e. not the floor), wiping surfaces, etc...). Failure to comply will result in the loss of this privilege.
- Substitute Teacher: In my absent you are expected to adherence to ALL classroom Expectations and Policy. The Teacher Teaching On-Call (TTOC) is to be treated with the same level of respect and courtesy as any other teacher in the school. The TTOC will be made aware of these guidelines and will be instructed to report any inappropriate behaviour and taking any necessary disciplinary action.
- Vandalism & Stealing: of student or school property is strictly prohibited.

Being on time and prepared is a requirement for the real world, and I expect nothing less than an employer would of their employees. Coming to class on time, prepared and ready to learn is an essential trait of an effective learner. Students are expected to come class with the following materials:

Course Work & Academic Success
Students will be given ample time to complete the majority of their course work and projects if time is used efficiently. Students are expected to be accountable for their learning and therefore are encouraged and expected to be do coursework or regular review of class material as needed. Students who are not up to date with course work will not be allowed to work in the wood shop until all missing work is completed to a satisfactory level. In addition, students will be given every opportunity to demonstrate their understanding and knowledge of the curricular competencies.
Most students who fail do so mainly because of a lack of effort and not from a lack ability or intelligence!
